Mazda CX-5 Sport

While this is the base model of the 2018 Mazda CX-5, the Sport sets the precedent of comfort and style found in all the trims.  Starting MSRP is at $24,150, offering seating for five between the two rows. The rear cloth-trimmed, 41-inch legroom seats recline and fold down 40/20/40 to expand the 31 cubic-feet trunk storage to 60 cubic-feet of total cargo capacity.  Comfort for the driver and front passenger is provided via the six-way ergonomic adjustments. At the driver's fingertips, the audio system is controlled via the seven-inch touchscreen, additionally serving as the control center of standard Bluetooth and viewport for the rear camera.  Two front USB ports and an auxiliary jack expand on the capabilities of music selection, and drivers can switch between inputs with ease thanks to the wheel-mounted audio and phone buttons. Cruise control is also just a touch away. Additional Driver Assist features come standard within the Sport, including Blind Spot Monitoring, Rear Cross-Traffic Alerts, and Smart City Brake Support.  The wheels are 17 inches and come donned with all-season tires.

Mazda CX-5 Touring

The 2018 CX-5 Touring, the mid-trim offering, combines practical value with higher quality-of-life features that really accentuates the opulence of the Mazda brand.  Starting at $26,215, the Touring adds Leatherette upholstery, heated front seats, dual-zone climate control, two rear USB charging ports, rear privacy glass, and upgrades the front seat adjustments from manual to electric.  Keyless entry and ignition via the push button start will start off the journey quickly. The wheels beef up to standard 19-inch aluminum alloy wheels. A whole host of Driver Assist features enhance the drive with the inclusion of the full i-ACTIVSENSE Suite Package, adding High Beam Control, Lane Departure Warning, LaneKeep Assist, Smart Brake Support, automatic windshield wipers, and automatic headlights.  An available Touring Preferred Package adds bonuses such as navigation, upgraded ten-speak Bose audio system, a power moonroof, and trunk power liftgate.

Mazda CX-5 Grand Touring

The stunning toptrim of the CX-5 starts at $29,645, defining what a luxury SUV should feel and drive like.  The driver's seat gains an eight-way memory adjustment system, with leather-trimmed upholstery throughout the two rows.  The sound system gains SiriusXM, beginning with a four-month trial subscription. Previously mentioned, the Preferred Package is added into the standard features, including heated steering wheel, dual-heated exterior mirrors and windshield wiper de-icer.  On the exterior, all lights are upgraded to LEDs, and adds Adaptive Front-Lighting pivoting, responding to the vehicle's speed as well as the driving angle to turn lights around curves and corners for maximum visibility of the road ahead. The GT comes with all aforementioned Driver Assist features, and offers an available Grand Touring Premium Package.  This adds Traffic Sign Recognition, reading speed limits and other road notifications with a small hood mounted camera to actively update the driver's Active Driving Display with road and speed information.

Mazda CX-5 Powertrain

All 2018 CX-5 models sold in America come with Mazda's 2.5-liter inline four-cylinder SKYACTIV-G engine.  Paired to a six-speed automatic transmission, this engine outputs 187 horsepower and 186 pound-feet of torque.  All models come with a manual paddle-shift mode, as well as a high-performance Sport mode button for better throttle and acceleration response.  Front-wheel drive is standard throughout the three trims, but Mazda's i-ACTIV all-wheel drive is available on every model. This selectively puts the vehicle into 4WD in response to more difficult road or weather conditions whenever extra power is necessary, rating this SUV to towing abilities up to 2,000 pounds.
