The city of Dundalk was inhabited by the Susquehannock Indians, and originally explored by Europeans when John Smith travelled through the area. It didn't become incorporated until much later, under a few different names, until settling on Dundalk. Henry McShane  named it for his hometown of Dundalk, Ireland.
