Motor Oil Myths: Fact & Fiction

An informed car owner knows fact from fiction. That is why we here at Thompson Mazda in Baltimore want to debunk some common motor oil myths.

The first motor oil myth that is absolutely false is that as soon as your motor oil appears to be black, it should be changed immediately. This is simply not true. Instead, consult your owner's manual to see how often you should change the oil. This can end up saving you a ton of money in the long run on oil changes. The second is that your oil filter does not need to be changed every time your oil is changed. This is again false as the two should always be done in tandem as to maximize the efficiency of your car.
